Hy Oh, Silver!

Saturday Leftover Day.

Earlier this week I showed some Roy Rogers strips by Hy Mankin. Although the name on the strip is AL McKimson I don't believe I have actually seen any of his work. In the mid fifties the strip was done by Hy Mankin in a remarably sharp style. Here is a longer run from 1955.

I think "Al McKimson" was a pen name for Tom and/or Chuck McKimson (who worked with their brother Robert as animators at Warner Bros.) and Al McWilliams.

I always thought it was a pen name for Al Stenzel and one of the McKimson brothers. I should look up that Lone Ranger artist bio. But I think that was just about the comic books. The first few years are be a particular artist. It's only after that that the style changes and Hy mankin apparently did a couple of years.

The Lone Ranger's Tom Gill has nothing to do with Roy Rogers of course. I mix up my cwboy strips.
